I grudgingly read my assigned English work this evening. An eleven page, small font and wordy letter written by Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the assigned readings and I was not looking forward to it. However, his words are incredibly inspiring. One notion that always made me frustrated was save my passion to fix the problem when I’m older. I’m older now and years of suppressed passion and inaction has made my resolve to act weak. In his letter to critics, King Jr. says,
Such an attitude stems from a tragic misconception of time, from the strangely irrational notion that there is something in the very flow of time that will inevitably cure all ills. Actually, time itself is neutral; it can be used either destructively or constructively.
Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of stagnation.
As much as I post things on Tumblr of the world I want to see and dream of better days where my life will be in order I need to act now. Time is neutral. My actions in time are what make the difference. Now is the time to love. Now is the time to help people. Now is the time to pursue the things I greatly desire.
